The Future of Rotterdam on Billboards

What will Rotterdam look like in 2067? In what state will the new generation of architects leave the city? During the 3rd International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam international students provide answers to these questions as part of Indesem 2007: The legacy.

This International Design Seminar is a biennial workshop of the Faculty of Architecture at Delft University of Technology. The curator this year is Winy Maas (MVRDV). The theme, The Legacy, dovetails perfectly with that of the biennale. Under the guidance of practicing architects, the participating students are designing visionary billboards about the future of Rotterdam. The billboards will be displayed from 24 May to the end of June 2007 in dozens of locations throughout Rotterdam and its environs.

"The only maxim of art is not to be imperial. This means today: it does not have to be democratic, if democracy implies confirmity with the imperial idea of political liberty." (Alain Badiou, 2005)
