Geschiedenis van de IABR prijzen

Communicatie Prijs 2003
ondersteund door de Rotterdamse Kunststichting
Deze prijs is bedoeld voor de deelnemer wiens bijdrage aan de tentoonstelling bezoekers helpt begrijpen op welke manier architectuur mobiliteitssystemen kan verbinden met de menselijke ervaring en de ruimte waar wij ons in bewegen.

Horizon project, West 8, NL
Het plan om de koe terug te brengen in het landschap door enorme billboards langs snelwegen te plaatsen, draagt bij aan het Nederlandse panorama. De culturele identiteit van het Nederlandse landschap wordt hiermee verduidelijkt en iedereen kan zich gemakkelijk vereenzelvigen met de verschillende gemoedstoestanden van de billboard-koeien. Het ontwerp is een eenvoudige en heldere bijdrage aan de wereld van de mobiliteit en kan door een ieder begrepen worden.

Innovatie Prijs 2003

Criteria: Mobiliteit is geen opzichzelfstaand fenomeen. Mobiliteit is er om winst te verkrijgen door directe bereikbaarheid. Innovatie is geen nieuwtje of modegril. Innovatie moet beklijven. Het zorgt voor blijvende waarde op de lange termijn en moet toepasbaar zijn.

Infra Ecology, Lofvers, van Bergen, Kolpa met  Duzan Doepel, NL
Ware innovatie, voorgekomen uit inspiratie, heft de capaciteit om onze perceptie geheel te veranderen. Dit voorstel ziet vervuiling als de motor van een duurzame brandstof cyclus. Koolzaad, bieten en vervuild water voeden samen ecologische benzinestations en parkeerplaatsen langs de snelweg en hebben een positieve invloed op zowel de uitlaatgassen als het omliggende landschap. Met als resultaat een nieuwe toepassing van onze landbouw en een omkering van de milieuoverlast die wordt geassocieerd met transport.

Inspiratie Prijs 2003

De jury van de Inspiratie Prijs heeft zich niet zo zeer op objecten of gebouwen voor mobiliteit gericht, maar meer op de perceptie van mobiliteit. Ze zocht naar een houding, naar poëzie, naar iets beeldends (ontroerends) dat ruimte laat voor verbeelding.
De selectie werd gemaakt aan de hand van twee criteria, de inhoud en de manier waarop deze tentoongesteld werd. Alle tentoonstellingen van de biënnale werden bekeken (World Avenue, Holland Avenue and MOB_LAB) en de jury was zeer positief over een aantal bijdragen. Een eervolle vermelding werd toegekend aan Holland Avenue als geheel. Na een levendige discussie, koos de jury drie exposanten die de Inspiratie Prijs samen moeten delen.
Budapest film, (World Avenue)
Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Urban Design Institute

Gedeelde winnaar is de film uit Boedapest als beste interpretatie van het thema ‘A room with a view’. Worstelend met de deuren klom de jury in de Lada en daarmee in een compleet zintuiglijke wereld, de auto als huiskamer, ingericht met persoonlijke prulletjes, met uitzicht op de stad Boedapest.
De snelheid van de film, zich bewegend door nogal onopvallende stedelijke ruimtes, maar ook door interieurs als bagageruimtes en keukens, gecombineerd met de voortdrijvende beat van de muziek zorgde voor een fantastische beleving van het ritme van de stad en het gevoel van plaats in de auto.

Pearl River Delta tentoonstelling, (World Avenue)

De andere gedeelde winnaar is de Pearl River Delta tentoonstelling uit World Avenue. Deze tentoonstelling laat een hellende transportzone zien waarin allerlei stedelijke functies zijn geprojecteerd, met eronder plastic bankjes in diverse kleuren die de samenkomst van mensen voor allerlei activiteiten symboliseren. Prachtige filmsequenties laten de hedendaagse situatie rond de Guangzhou Shenzen Zhuhai Superhighway zien.
De jury oordeelt dat dit werk het helderste inzicht biedt in de menselijke mobiliteit en de consequenties daarvan. Het vertelt van de snelweg als structurerend en motiverend voor haar omgeving, maar ook van haar Sisyphus karakter en onverwachte mogelijkheden om onderdak te bieden aan een veelvoud van functies in een zeer abstracte, maar zeer beeldende installatie.

Mobility (MOB_LAB)
Italian Directorate for Modern Architecture and Modern Art (DARC), Roma

Mobility uit MOB_LAB is de derde ‘gedeelde’ winnaar van de Inspiration Award 2002. De Internationale Tentoonstelling van Italië presenteert een ruimte met een projectie op drie schermen, een scherm toont mensen in close up en slow motion, een is vervaagd door zeer snelle bewegingen en een ander toont ruimtes die gebouwd zijn voor mobiliteit. Samen zorgen deze beelden voor een perfecte ervaring van de implicaties van mobiliteit en van de uitdagingen die dit betekent voor een land als Italië. Het is professioneel, elegant en gewoon goed gedaan.

Criteria: This Award pays tribute to the participant whose contribution to the exhibition enables visitors to understand ways in which architecture can tie systems of mobility to both the experience of the human being and places through which we move

Horizon project, West 8, NL
The plan to reintroduce the mood-cow into the landscape by putting big billboards alongside mobility routes contributes to the Dutch panorama. The cultural identity of the Dutch landscape is articulated and all people can easily relate to the different moods of the cows involved. The plan reflects a simple and lucid contribution to the world of mobility and be read by all.

Innovation Award 2002

Criteria: Mobility is not for its own sake. Mobility is to provide benefit through inclusive access. Innovation is not novelty or fashion. Innovation must stick. It provides lasting long-term value and must be implementable.

Infra Ecology, Lofvers, van Bergen, Kolpa with Duzan Doepel, NL
True innovation, born of inspiration, has the capacity to totally change perception. This proposition envisages pollution as the engine of a sustainable fuel cycle. Rapeseed, beet root and polluted water all feed into ecological gas stations and leisure resorts at the roadside feeding off car exhausts and the surrounding countryside. The result gives new purpose to our agriculture and reverses the environmental negativity associated with transport.

Inspiration Award 2002

Preliminary considerations and criteria:
The jury´s definition of the inspiration Award focussed not so much on objects or buildings of/for mobility, but rather on the perception of mobility. The jury looked for an attitude, for poetry, for something evocative that would leave room for imagination.
The selection was made on the basis of two criteria, on content and on the way it was exhibited.
All exhibitions of the biennale were taken into account (World Avenue, Holland Avenue and MOB_LAB) and the jury saw very good contributions. An honory mention is given to Holland Avenue as a whole.

After spirited deliberations, the jury selected three exhibits to share the inspiration Award.
Budapest film, (World Avenue)
Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Urban Design Institute

Co-winner is the Budapest Film for the best interpretation of “A room with a view”. Fighting with the doors the jury climbed into the Lada and into a complete sensory world, the car as a private room, furnished with personal knickknacks, looking into Budapest.
The fast speed of the film, cutting across quite ordinary urban spaces but also interiors like locker rooms, kitchens etc. in combination with the driven beat of the music gave a fantastic feel for the rhythm of the city and the sense of place in the car.

Pearl River Delta exhibition, (World Avenue)
Polytechnic University of Hong Kong, School of Design, Map Office

Co-winner is the Pearl River Delta exhibition from World Avenue.This exhibition shows a sloping conveyor belt inscribed with many urban functions, under it plastic stools in various colours symbolising the gathering of people for manifold actions. Beautiful film sequences show the contemporary condition around the Guangzhou Shenzen Zhuhai Superhighway.
The jury considered this work to project the clearest insight to people´s mobility and the consequences of mobility. It shows the message of the highway giving structure and motivation to its region, but also its Sisyphus nature as well as its unexpected possibilities to become shelter for many functions in a highly abstracted but very evocative installation.
Mobility (MOB_LAB)

Italian Directorate for Modern Architecture and Modern Art (DARC), Roma

Co-winner is Mobility from MOB_LAB. The International Exhibition of Italy presents a room with a three-sided projection, one showing people close up in slow motion, one blurred with very fats movements, one showing spaces built for mobility. In combination very created –without words- a perfect feeling for the implications of mobility and for the challenge it means to the country of Italy. It is professional, elegant and simply well done.
